Letter from the Executive Board
Dear Delegates,
Welcome to DBISMUN 2025! We are your Executive Board for this conference, Myrah Thakkar, Aadya Khanna and Navya Mahesh.
DBISMUN is a place for like-minded individuals to come together and discuss issues that are prevalent in modern society. You will also meet people with newer and different perspectives about ongoing conflicts. With great enthusiasm, we, the Executive Board, are excited to watch and help conduct meaningful and fruitful debate.
SOCHUM, a committee established in 1945, created to respond to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This committee’s mission mainly revolves around, protecting and promoting human rights. Addressing humanitarian issues and helping foster global cooperation. According to SOCHUM’s objective, we have chosen this year’s agenda to be, “Addressing the Global Refugee Crisis: Humanitarian Assistance, Resettlement, and Long-Term Solutions”
The world is currently witnessing one of the largest displacement crises in modern history. With current conflicts such as the Sudan war, Russia-Ukraine conflict, and Myanmar, where over 100 million individuals have been forcibly displaced from their homes. Refugees face great challenges such as lack of access to basic necessities, inadequate legal aid, and questionable futures. With over 36.4 million people classified as refugees, this number is only going to rise.
Behind every statistic is a story: children growing up in refugee camps without the luxury of having basic necessities. With thousands of families being torn apart, and individuals constantly on the search for a new home. While some countries offer open arms, others avoid it like the plague.
As delegates of SOCHUM, you are not dealing with conceptual policies. You are dealing with the rights of people who are trying to survive. As the Executive Board of SOCHUM, we expect realistic, creative and empathetic resolutions. Finally, never underestimate the effect of constructive lobbying. Good luck, delegates — see you in the committee!
Yours sincerely, The Executive Board of the Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee, Myrah Thakker, Aaadya Khanna and Navya Mahesh.
