Letter from the Executive Board
Dear Delegates, Welcome to DBISMUN 2025! It is with great eagerness and pleasure that we, the Executive Board of the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, welcome every delegate attending this conference. We are honoured to have the opportunity to guide you through this journey as we explore the depths of our agenda together.
The United Nations Children's Fund works to protect children's rights, improve their well-being, and advocate for their needs globally. Its main goal is to protect the rights of each child, especially those who are the most disadvantaged. It works to protect children in conflict zones, providing healthcare, education, and other basic necessities.
In conflict zones all around the globe, children are often the first to suffer and the last to be protected. The devastating consequences of war can range from forced displacement to deep psychological trauma. Our agenda focuses on a real-world issue that has had growing relevance in recent years- the protection of children living in conflict zones and war-torn areas. In South Sudan, thousands of children are forcibly recruited as child soldiers, deprived of their innocence, and trained for violence and combat. In Ukraine, children are exposed to freezing temperatures, bombings, and life-long scars- both physical and mental. Protecting and allowing children to thrive is the main issue at hand- not just ensuring their survival.
These are not isolated incidents, they follow a pattern of systematic failure. Despite a plethora of international laws, there has been a continued failure to enforce them which has caused thousands of children to be put in vulnerable situations, with nearly all of their basic human rights being violated. In this committee, we learn to succeed where others failed, hold ourselves accountable for our actions, and make up for our previous shortcomings.
MUNs challenge you to step out of your comfort zone, think in new perspectives, and broaden your view of the world. They are an opportunity to gain new knowledge, create unshakable bonds, and step into your true nature. Only by stepping into unknown waters will you learn to grow and evolve- and MUNs are the best possible place to teach you this.
The Executive Board hopes that the delegates will approach the agenda with urgency and empathy, keeping the interests of children at heart. As a member of UNICEF, your duty will be to address the harsh realities faced by children through logical debate, find sustainable solutions to safeguard their rights and protect children caught in the crossfire. Whether it’s through global cooperation or treaties, your ideas have the potential to shape a safer and just world for our children.
This committee is not only about diplomacy - but about humanity. It's a place where you will explore moral dilemmas along with political stances. Over the course of the two days, you will be expected to navigate tough questions, create meaningful and fiery debates, negotiate with opposing views, and attempt to reach a consensus by engaging in discussions with your fellow delegates through lobbying and dialogue. We will encourage you to think critically, debate passionately and lead with compassion.
Remember that in every policy you propose, in every argument you have, in every solution you create, your words hold a value that goes far beyond this MUN; so let our words reflect the world we want to create as we embark on this journey together, and let it be the beginning of something meaningful.
We look forward to your active participation. Good luck, and see you soon!
Yours sincerely, The Executive Board of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Saee Paranjpye, Gyaana Khanna, and Vyom Bafna.
