Addressing the Economic Consequences of Armed Conflicts on Global Markets and Sustainable Development
|
To foster youth leadership and effective rhetoric, DBISMUN 2026 is offering Junior Committees - open exclusively to students from Grades 6-8.
About the Agenda:
The implications of armed conflict upon economics have increasingly become a problem to global peace, not only to countries involved but to the global economy as well. In a globalized world, conflicts lead to disrupted supply chains, hinder the transportation of crucial resources, cause inflation, and impede economic development. This committee will explore the problems of market disruption, food and energy shortages, currency instability, economic pressures caused by refugees, the need and justification of armed conflict, and challenges faced by post-conflict economic recovery. Delegates will discuss the roles of conflict-stricken nations, economic giants, international organizations, humanitarian organizations, and multinational companies. Arguments will likely arise regarding the efficiency of economic sanctions, emergency financial aid, debt relief policies, and burden sharing among other topics.Differences may arise between developed and developing nations, countries affected and unaffected by conflict, nations that support economic sanctions versus those opposed to them, nations that instigate conflict, etc. Economic resilience may be explored as part of the agenda with emphasis on diverse supply chains, international cooperation, sustainable reconstruction, and responsible financial aid. Discussion may also delve into the causes of armed conflict because solving these causes will solve armed conflict.
